The Power of Memorization: CEO of the Umonics Method Sancy Suraj’s Vision for The Umonics Method

In the world of memory training, Sancy Suraj, the CEO of The Umonics Method, is a name that is highly regarded. The Umonics Method is a unique memory training program for young children that has garnered attention for its effectiveness in improving memory skills beyond simple memorization. As an interviewer for a magazine that specializes in interviewing CEOs, I had the opportunity to sit down with Sancy Suraj and discuss his vision for The Umonics Method. In this article, we will delve into his background, inspiration for starting the program, the impact it has had on children, and his long-term plans for the program’s growth and evolution

Can you tell us about your background and how you first became interested in memory training?
I’d be happy to share my background and how I became interested in memory training. My interest in memory training started when I was studying in university. During my time there, I struggled to memorize the vast amounts of information required for my exams. I then stumbled upon memory techniques and started practicing them. I was amazed at how much I was able to retain and how much easier it became to recall the information during exams. It was then that I realized the immense power of memory and how it can be used to excel academically.
After discovering these techniques, I began to compete in memory competitions and quickly rose up the ranks. Eventually, I went on to set a Guinness World Record for memorizing the longest sequence of colors. This achievement gave me the confidence to start teaching memory techniques to others. I founded Pinnacle Minds, a memory improvement training organization, to help others improve their memory skills and realize their full potential.
However, my focus shifted to children when I realized the importance of starting memory training at a young age. That’s when I founded The Umonics Method, a memory enrichment training program for preschoolers in Singapore. Through The Umonics Method, we aim to maximize individual potential by creating strong foundations in memory techniques for lifelong learning. I firmly believe that memory training should be taught to preschoolers at a young age, just like how we teach them to read and write, as memory is a crucial skill to develop at a young age.

What inspired you to start The Umonics Method, and what has been your vision for the program since its inception?
What inspired me to start The Umonics Method was my passion for memory training and my belief in the importance of memory development in young children. As a memory athlete and a corporate trainer, I had seen the transformative effects of memory training on people of all ages, and I knew that starting young was crucial for building a strong foundation for lifelong learning. I also saw a gap in the market for memory training specifically designed for preschoolers, and I wanted to fill that gap by creating a program that would be both effective and fun for children.
My vision for The Umonics Method has always been to provide a comprehensive and holistic memory enrichment program for preschoolers that would give them the tools they need to succeed in all areas of their lives. Memory is a fundamental cognitive skill that underlies all learning, and my goal was to help children develop their memory abilities in a way that would benefit them not just in school, but in their personal and professional lives as well. I wanted to create a program that would be engaging and enjoyable for children, and that would foster a love of learning and curiosity about the world around them.
Since its inception, The Umonics Method has grown and evolved, but my vision for the program remains the same. We have expanded our offerings to include online classes and virtual workshops, and we have reached thousands of children in Singapore and beyond. We have also developed new teaching methods and techniques that are tailored to the specific needs and learning styles of preschoolers, and we have continued to innovate and improve our program to ensure that it remains effective and relevant in today’s rapidly changing world. My ultimate vision for The Umonics Method is to empower children with the skills and confidence they need to become lifelong learners and to reach their full potential in whatever they choose to do.

How have you seen The Umonics Method impact the lives of the children who participate in it?

We have seen children as young as three years old learn how to memorize information with ease, which has had a profound impact on their academic performance and overall confidence levels. The Umonics Method is not just about memorization; it’s about giving children the tools they need to succeed in life. By mastering memory techniques, our students are developing their problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity skills, which will serve them well in all areas of life.
One of the most significant impacts of The Umonics Method is on children’s academic performance. We have seen students who were struggling in school make a complete turnaround after participating in our program. They become more confident in their abilities and are better equipped to handle the demands of their coursework. Our students are also more engaged in their learning, as they have a sense of ownership and control over their education. They understand that they can learn and remember anything they set their minds to, which inspires them to take on new challenges and strive for excellence.
Another impact of The Umonics Method is on children’s self-esteem and confidence. Learning how to memorize and recall information with ease is an empowering experience for our students. They become more self-assured in their abilities and are better equipped to handle the pressures of academic and social situations. This newfound confidence extends beyond the classroom and into other areas of their lives, such as extracurricular activities and personal relationships.
Overall, the impact of The Umonics Method on the lives of the children who participate in it has been transformative. Our students are developing skills and abilities that will serve them well throughout their lives, and we are proud to be a part of their journey.

Building and growing The Umonics Method has not been without its challenges. One of the main challenges we faced in the early days was convincing parents and educators of the importance of memory training for young children. Many people were skeptical and believed that memory was something that could not be improved upon, or that it was a natural ability that some children were simply born with. Overcoming this challenge required a lot of education and outreach on our part, as we sought to explain the benefits of memory training and how it could help children succeed in all areas of their lives. We worked hard to build a strong reputation and credibility in the industry, which helped us to gain the trust and support of parents and educators.

We wanted to create a program that was fun and interactive, so that children would be excited to participate and learn. This required a lot of research and testing, as we tried out different teaching methods and activities to see what worked best. We also had to adapt our curriculum over time to keep up with the changing needs and interests of our students.
Finally, like any startup, we faced financial challenges in the early days. We had to invest a lot of time and money in developing our curriculum, training our teachers, and building our brand. This required a lot of hard work and sacrifice, as we worked long hours and took on additional jobs to make ends meet. However, we were fortunate to have a strong team that was committed to our vision and willing to do whatever it took to make The Umonics Method a success.
Overall, we have overcome these challenges by staying focused on our vision and mission, being adaptable and willing to try new things, and building strong relationships with our customers and partners. We have also remained committed to constantly improving our program and curriculum, and to providing the best possible experience for our students. While there have been many challenges along the way, we are proud of what we have accomplished so far, and excited about the future of The Umonics Method.

How have you adapted The Umonics Method in response to the COVID-19 pandemic?
The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly presented a unique set of challenges for us at The Umonics Method. However, as an organization, we quickly adapted to ensure that our students’ learning experiences remained uninterrupted. One of the biggest changes we made was to shift from our traditional classroom-based learning model to a virtual one.
We developed an online platform that enabled students to continue their learning remotely, and this platform was designed to be interactive and engaging, so that students could continue to participate actively in their learning. We also provided additional training and resources to our teachers, to ensure that they were well equipped to deliver high-quality virtual instruction.
Another important adaptation we made was to our curriculum. We recognized that the pandemic was a stressful and uncertain time for everyone, especially for children. So, we updated our curriculum to include more focus on emotional and mental wellbeing, mindfulness and stress management techniques, which we felt were critical skills for our students to learn during this time.
Finally, we also made changes to our administrative and operational processes to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We implemented strict hygiene and social distancing protocols for our in-person classes, and we also made sure that our staff had the necessary personal protective equipment to minimize the risk of transmission.
Overall, I am proud of how our organization has responded to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. While it has certainly been a difficult time, it has also been an opportunity for us to innovate and find new ways to deliver high-quality education to our students, no matter the circumstances.

What advice would you give to parents who are interested in helping their young children develop strong memory skills and a love for learning?
As a memory training expert and the CEO of The Umonics Method, I would like to offer some advice to parents who want to help their young children develop strong memory skills and a love for learning. Firstly, it is important to create a positive and stimulating environment for your child. This can include reading to them, engaging them in conversation, and encouraging their curiosity about the world around them. A love for learning starts with a genuine interest in exploring new ideas and experiences, so nurturing this curiosity is essential.
Another way to develop strong memory skills is through active learning. Rather than simply passively absorbing information, children should be encouraged to actively engage with what they are learning. This can include practicing recall, using visualization techniques, and making connections between different ideas. At The Umonics Method, we incorporate these techniques into our training programs to help children build strong memory skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.
It is also important to remember that every child is different, and they will learn in different ways. Parents should take the time to understand their child’s learning style and adapt their teaching methods accordingly. For some children, visual aids and hands-on activities may be most effective, while others may prefer more structured and organized learning environments. The key is to be patient and flexible, and to provide plenty of support and encouragement along the way.
Lastly, I would encourage parents to make learning fun and enjoyable for their children. Whether it’s through games, puzzles, or other activities, finding ways to make learning engaging and entertaining can help children develop a lifelong love of learning. At The Umonics Method, we strive to make our training programs both effective and enjoyable, so that children not only improve their memory skills but also develop a passion for learning that will serve them well throughout their lives.
In summary, to help children develop strong memory skills and a love for learning, parents should create a positive and stimulating environment, encourage active learning, adapt teaching methods to their child’s learning style, and make learning fun and enjoyable. By doing so, parents can help their children achieve academic success and develop a lifelong love of learning.

“Create a positive and stimulating environment, encourage active learning, adapt to your child’s style, and make learning enjoyable. These simple steps can help your child develop strong memory skills and a love for learning that will last a lifetime.”
